Friant Water Authority (Friant) is advancing the next phase of the Middle Reach Capacity Correction Project (MRCCP), known as Reach 2A, to continue restoring canal capacity lost due to land subsidence along the Friant-Kern Canal. This phase includes roughly 2.6 miles of canal improvements, including three road siphons, and builds on the first 10-mile phase completed in 2024.
The project recently secured $200 million in federal funding, and Friant has reached a borrow-site agreement with the City of Porterville to supply construction materials. With right-of-way authority and funding in place, construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks. Restoring the Friant-Kern Canal’s full capacity will strengthen long-term water delivery reliability for Lindmore and other Friant contractors.
